QUESTIONS TO THE CAT EXPERTS:

Date: Mar 25, 2008
Question:
We have two cats both about 4 years old. We got our first as a kitten, then when she was about 1 and a half we adopted our second who was roughly the same age. Our two cats really don't get on. I'm thinking about getting a kitten but am wondering whether this is a good idea and whether my other cats will accept a new arrival? can you please offer me some advice?
Gabbi

If your two cats already don't get along, it is unlikely that adding a third cat to the mix is going to make things better. In addition, the incidence of behavior problems such as innappropriate urination go up significantly when you get three or more cats in a household. It is, of course, your decision to make, but cats tend to have some difficulty adjusting to new arrivals. Good luck!
