| Question: Dr Walker thank you for your kind words of wisdom, however you have not really answered my question. I fully understand your comments and potential wishes however those are not mine and I would still like some advice on how to introduce Suki to the outside world. I believe in longitivity but also believe that a cat living at home is missing out on the bigger adventure. Paula Paula Here is the thing - forcing a cat that is afraid of the outdoors to go outdoors is not giving the cat an adventure, it is giving them a terrifying experience. This is very similar to what happens when feral cats (and by feral, I mean wild cats, not strays) are forced to live inside and spend all of their time hiding. Cats develop a comfort level, or sense of security, with the environment they are used to, and it isn't a good idea to force them to get used to something else unless there is a very pressing reason to do so. I guess we might have to agree to disagree, as I just can't think of a reason why it would be a good thing to make a cat who is afraid of the outdoors go outside. |
