| Question: Are there fat-free foods for cats? Betsy Even though fat-free products have become popular among humans, there are no fat-free food products for pets (or there shouldn't be anyway). Pet food is different from the food we eat. Pets get all their nutrients from the same source while we eat many different kind of food items. Fat is an essential nutrient and a certain amount of fat in the pet's diet is critical. Eliminating it from pet food would remove it from that animal's diet completely. There are some low-fat pet food products which you can look at when your cat is obese and needs to lose weight, but still approach it with caution. The best way to get your pet in shape is exercise and stop overfeeding. If obesity is a problem, look around in Catpert for articles regarding healthy pet diet. |
