Question:
Can cats be jealous of babies?
Linda

Yes, cats can become jealous when a new baby comes into the house. They can even become sick, be treated for hundreds of dollars without being able to give a definite diagnose - except for stress.

In these situations show your cat that you love him by giving him attention that he needs. When a new baby comes, pets are often neglected and this can hurt their feelings and emotional balance.

The urban legend that cats might try to kill babies is just a myth. Cats might like the warmth of babies and thus they may want to sleep next to the baby, seldom try to sleep on the baby - but they will leave as soon as the baby makes even the slightest movement.

Most of the cats are trustworthy near babies, even when they are jealous. Nevertheless, it is not advised to leave a baby alone with any pet.
