QUESTIONS TO THE CAT EXPERTS:

Date: Jul 17, 2008
Question:
My cat Hattie Belle, is a four year old Himalayan. At night, once my husband and I have gone to bed she leaves our room, goes to her toy basket, picks up one of her three favorite toys and just cries (sad meow). She then carries the toy in to our bedroom and leaves it at the foot of our bed. Do you think she just wants us to wake up and play with her? Or is this similar to the behavior of outdoor cats that bring their owners little critters as gifts and leave them on the front door? Is she sad? What does it mean?
Sarah Peinhardt

Cats are nocturnal, so they are awake at night and sleep all day. It sounds like she wants to play with you.

I suggest you make "play time" for her after you and your husband get off of work. Tire her out, so she will sleep through the night.
