QUESTIONS TO THE CAT EXPERTS:

Date: Jul 24, 2008
Question:
hi, I have a male cat that has been diagnosed with leukemia, and he has shown symptoms of fever and vomiting, and with medication he got better, but now he has excessive saliva, and does not drink water or eat hard food; only soft food he eats, my question is: does that excessive saliva have anything to do with his leukemia, or might it be a seperate illness?do you know any illness that matches what i described? thank you
Jenny

Have you looked in his mouth? Many cats with leukemia have severe dental disease, including gingivitis and/or stomatitis, which is a very painful inflammation in the mouth. Sometimes this can be controlled or fixed by extracting all of the teeth, but in some cases this is a very difficult disorder to deal with. I would definitely consult with your veterinarian for the best treatment options in your situation.
