QUESTIONS TO THE CAT EXPERTS:

Question:
How old does your kitten have to be to get her spayed??
Sarah

Some vets practice early spay/neuter; which means kittens can be spayed/neutered as early as 8 weeks old or when they weigh about 2 pounds. Our vet is very successful with early spay/neuter, as kittens recover more quickly than older kittens or older cats. The most important thing to remember with kittens this young is to keep them warm after surgery (keep them on a heating pad), to monitor them closely, and to feed them about a teaspoon of food prior to surgery (in the morning before surgery in the afternoon and no more than a teaspoon).

However, some vets prefer to wait until kittens are 6 months old to spay/neuter them, so I would check with your local veterinarian to see which he/she prefers.
