QUESTIONS TO THE CAT EXPERTS:

Date: Oct 7, 2007
Question:
My cat tears up the carpet outside my bedroom door when she's locked out. Is there any way to make her stop?
FoolProof

The best solution would be to avoid the cat getting locked out in the first place, but I guess you have considered that option already and it won't work for some reason.

Some other things you can try:

- Build a cat door if possible, so the cat can come and go as she pleases
-Place a mat over the area she is tearing up and see if she'll scratch the mat instead
- Use a plastic carpet protector, of the sort they sell in office supply stores for office chairs to roll across so they don't damage the carpet
- Get a scratching post (or some other item), sprinkle its surface with catnip, so she's attracted to it

Good luck!
