QUESTIONS TO THE CAT EXPERTS:

Date: Aug 11, 2008
Question:
I have a cat named Kiki who spends her time beauty sleeping, and grooming at her fond fur. I try to exercise her, using toy mice, string, food dishes to beckon her, lasers, and balls. SHe just ignores me. Ho can I exercise her?? Help!!
Erica Guo

Some cats are hard to encourage to exercise. I have a senior cat who LOVES to sleep, so I understand. But I also know it's important, especially at his age, to keep him active.

Everything you mentioned would be a good place to start. Lasers are good and mine likes ribbons attached to wands.

I have two other suggestions. One, does the cat like to go outside? My cat loves to be outside. He loves to wander, smell, and eat grass. Plus, he likes to roll around and get dirty. I recommend a leash/harness, if you are afraid of her running from you. Or two, you might want to consider getting another cat or a kitten. Now, this step would take some time and can be a bit of a process for them to become new friends. But sometimes young kittens help bring new life to adult and older cats. Kittens like to pounce and roll around with other cats, so this could "encourage" Kiki to play.
