QUESTIONS TO THE CAT EXPERTS:

Date: Dec 10, 2008
Question:
I currently have one cat. I am moving to a new home where we will have a larger house and larger yard. I would like to adopt another cat now that we will have the space, and am wondering if moving to a new home is the ideal time for 2 cats to get to know eachother since neither is the 'resident' cat. Other wise, should I wait until my cat is settled in before I bring a new cat home?

I would suggest you allow your current cat to adjust to the new place before you bring another cat into the mix. Let your cat get familiar with the new smells, the sounds, the new placement of the litter pan, prior to asking him/her to "allow" a new friend into the house. You cat needs to learn his new territory first. But after some time, it should be safe to adopt another cat.
