QUESTIONS TO THE CAT EXPERTS:

Date: Dec 10, 2008
Question:
i have two cats, one male and one female. they are both fixed. they are both 2 years old. my male insists on trying to mate with his sister. so far she has just jerked away and swatted at him. she tends to be the aggressive cat of the two. should i worry that if this behavior keeps up, she may really hurt her bro? if so, how do i stop it?
Lynda

To discourage such a behavior, I suggest you use a water squirt bottle to defuse the situation when you witness it. Or make a loud noise to startle them. You want to associate this kind of behavior with something unpleasant (being squirted or a startling noise). You should definitely discourage the behavior so it does not lead to fighting or other behavioral problems.
