QUESTIONS TO THE CAT EXPERTS:

Date: Dec 10, 2008
Question:
we recently adopted two cats. One is a siamese chocolate point and the other a normal tabby i think. Last night was there first night and the siamese did not stop meowing all night. Even when we ignored him and locked him in the bathroom with the litterbox and his toys and food and water, he did not stop, he just became even louder. I need to know what to do, cause I can't get any sleep at all during the night. he is supposed to have been neutered but we'll never know cause he came without any papers or anything, just the cat. Please help me.

Cats are nocturnal, so their schedules are backwards to ours. While we work all day, they sleep and while we sleep they want attention. I suggest you play with him and make him be active for awhile, say after dinner while sitting at the tv. Have the cat chase a string or a ball, but don't allow him to sleep or he will be up all night. See if this helps him sleep through the night with less meowing. Plus, I don't think locking him in the bathroom with help, if anything, it will make it worse.
