QUESTIONS TO THE CAT EXPERTS:

Date: Nov 13, 2007
Question:
Hi there, i wonder if you could offer some guidance. Last year before Christmas a stray wondered upon our home and we adopted her. Her name is M. Then a few weeks ago we "saved" a kitten from being put to sleep at the vets. We have called the little one K, she is 7 weeks today. Both M and K are wonderful natured cats and are deeply loved by myself and partner. We have been keeping M and K seperate like we've been told to, and when we are home we let K out of her room to wonder and explore at her leisure. However, whenever K is around M does not come into the house, M takes one look at K and leaves, M still sleeps with us at night, but then leaves as soon as i open the door to K's room. how long will this last? Should we be concerned? Should we encourage M to acknowledge K? and if yes, how do we do this? P.S They have touched noses twice, K initiated this, M did not hiss she just merely turned and walked out the door. Thank you so much in advance.
N. Bowers

You need patience and time. Cats need time to get used to each other, and not look at each other as competitors for territory and attention.

It is easier for the young cat to get used to the older one, M needs more time. Do your best pay attention to M and show your love.
