QUESTIONS TO THE CAT EXPERTS:

Date: Dec 9, 2007
Question:
HELP my cat Squee is a sweety but she likes to pee on our things. Mostly its our bed but she also ruined a couch and likes to pee on blankets and clothes if their left on the floor. At first we thought she was mad about something like when its raining we don't let her out or because we try to keep her out of our bedroom or something but there's no pattern I have roommates and she's peed on their things as well so this just cant go on! I clean her litter box all the time and even have 4 around the house so to prevent this from happening but if I forget to close the bedroom door, there she goes again. She knows its a bad thing - we've tried scolding, swatting, and rubbing her nose in it but nothing works. we've tried spraying vinegar but that did nothing. please help me. We don't know what to do!!!!
Mo

A cat might do this for various reasons.

1) They have cystitis (a bladder infection)
2) They have litter aversion
3) They are afraid to use the litter tray because it is in a high-traffic area and they are frequently disturbed
4) Another cat has used the tray or another cat chases or otherwise intimidates them when they try to approach the tray
5) They are marking part of the house as their territory.

Whether one of these reasons might apply to your cat - you know better.
