| Question: I have two Ragdoll kittens/5 months old. They were started on Iams/kitten. Their stool was way too lose. I took them to the Vet. he suggested putting them on adult food. Their stool is better, but still too soft and really smells. I want to feed the best food and I want to eliniate as much ordor as possible. What do I do. Thank You, Rags & Livie's Mom Kathey Whitsett The first order of business is to have a complete fecal analysis done at a commercial laboratory. You definitely want to rule out a parasite or infection before switching around to a lot of different foods. If this is normal, then adding some fiber to the diet can help - 1 tbsp. of canned pumpkin a day is usually adequate. Yogurt can also be beneficial - 1-2 tbsp. a day. If you have done all of these things, then the next most likely cause is an intestinal parasite that can be extremely difficult to detect and test for, and most cats outgrow the symptoms in the first year. Definitely this is an issue that requires a good working relationship with your veterinarian, so consult them frequently if the problem does not resolve. |
