QUESTIONS TO THE CAT EXPERTS:

Over a month ago I found three cats living under a storage shed behind a restaurant and am conflicted about "rescuing" them. I am leaning toward taking them to a local "no kill" sanctuary, but wanted an opinion on the following: 1) Given they may have never lived in captivity, would they actually prefer where they are now to living at the sanctuary (indoor cattery and large outdoor yard which they can go between at their discretion) or even a "nice" home? 2) Will trapping them with a humane trap and/or luring them into a cat carrier with food and taking them to the sanctuary where they will eventually be put with other cats traumatize them to a point that they will never be comfortable "in captivity" or with people? Some info on the cats: One cat is the most social with people and has been since the first week I found them. Not fully grown and loves to be pet and will follow me around and even jump into my car if the door is left open The second cat is the one I believe to be the mother of the other two and may have had a home at one time. She loves to rub up against my leg and be pet. Will eat right next to me, but is still a little jumpy at times. The third cat is not fully grown and will now let me pet his back two or three times prior to getting agitated. I don't know if he will ever enjoy human contact other than being fed and given water, but he has come a long way since I first encountered him. He would not let me touch him and the slightest of motion frightened him away. I would never consider leaving them outside in "horrible" conditions, but we live in a southern city which has moderate temperature and they live under a shed (with some towels and cat beds that I have managed to stuff under the shed.) They get scraps on a daily basis from the employees at the restaurant and they have been spayed/neutered by an organization here in town. Thanks for so much any advice you can provide! Cheryl Jan 14
