QUESTIONS TO THE CAT EXPERTS:

I have a female cat, 10 yrs old, who I've had since she was 6 mths old. She was rescued. She seemed like a very sociable cat at the shelter but from the minute we brought her home she has hidden under the bed - yes for 10 yrs. She only comes out to eat and use the litter box. We have never been able to pick her up or pet her, she runs from us. We have never hurt her or anything. We had another cat, a 1 yr old male, when we brought her home but we introduced slowly and they've been best buds every since, that isn't issue. I think we have given her a good life and have gotten nothing in return, except bills. I did try homeopathic remedies but nothing has worked. I love my pet and want the best for her but she could live another 8 yrs under the bed which doesn't sound like a great life for her and frankly, and I realize how this sounds, it's a lot of time and money for us with no return. In a nutshell, I'm thinking about putting her down but am morally conflicted at the same time. I was hoping for some guidance and advice. Aug 28
I have two cats and the problem at the moment is with the older cat(13)he usually has a set ritual and really goes about his day by the clock ,but the past two weeks he has been acting very strange. He no longer comes down for his food we have to coax him down, he is jumping up and sitting in really unusual places and then looks like he is struggling to get down,he seems confused as to which room he is in and is unsure of his surroundings.. He recently had teeth taken out and blood tests which were all fine and also the person he spends most of his time with went into hospital so wondering if that had an effect or perhaps cats suffer with brain conditions like Alzheimer's?? thankyou very much x Aug 28
My cat Jackson is traumatized! i installed a ceiling fan in the bedroom 2 weeks ago and he has been hiding in the living room ever since. He used to sleep all day in the bedroom but now won't even pass by it in the hall where he can see the fan. I think he thinks it's a bird of prey waiting to eat him. His sister kitty adjusted after a few days and is fine. He got dehydrated during the first couple days so I moved the food and water from the hall across from the bedroom into the living room. I had the litter in the bathroom, but since he has to go by the bedroom in order to get to the bathroom, he didn't use it for 18 hours. so i moved it into the LR too for about a week, but have since moved it back. I don't think he uses it all day. He waits until I close the bedroom door in late evening (I close them out of the bedroom at night because they run and play and keep me awake). I feel like i have negatively changed his life. He's half a pet anymore. Will he eventually get over this? Should i move the food and water back to the hall and let him fend for himself? I kept the bedroom door shut for a week but as soon as i opened it, he freaked. I figured he'd adjust after a few days or a week, but he's made very little progress. When I open the bedroom door in the morning to come out, he runs into a corner in the LR and won't even come out for treats. In late afternoon he'll come out of hiding for some TLC and cuddles. He used to follow me everywhere, drink out of the bathroom sink, but no more. I carried him in there with me yesterday but as soon as i put him down, he jumped into the shower to hide, then ran out all slunk down back into the LR. I wish i had never put in the fan! Hello, We got a kitten from a shelter about a year ago. She was a very loving and kind cat, then when she was about six months old she began staring at my husband. It is a predetory stance. She can be very sweet to me, but at times she will just jump and nip at me. It is almost like I am another cat. We were wondering if these behaviors are because she is lonely. She did live with a bunch of other cats when she was at the shelter. We only have her. Should we consider getting another cat to keep her company? Would this help her? Do you have any suggestions? Hi, i have 2 kitten which i got from the AML. the youngest is now 5 months and i have had him for 2 months. He is the sweetest kitten and very loving. However every morning around 5am he will contiuly lick my face and ear. Many mornigns i have to hide my face in the sheets to stop him as i have tried everything else. Its driving me mad, how can i stop him from doing this. i have tried feeding him, locking him out of the room, but he just meows. I have also tried removing him from the bed. Nothing is working, he doesnt do it to me partner, just me. Can you please help. Aug 18
My 3 year old male, Mikey, was born with an eye disease and his eyes were removed and sewn shut at a very early age. He has completely adjusted and does all the things a seeing cat does...even more! My question: This morning I was petting his belly and found a bump that I'd noticed before. This time, I got a good look at it. It had a black-ish tip, and looked like dirt caught in his fur. I pulled on it very gently, Mikey didn't budge. He kept right on purring. I continued to pull it gently out of his hair, and it came off. Attached to this black-ish tip was a white, dense but soft mass of ....something. It seemed to leave a little hole in his skin where it was. Amazingly...this didn't seem to hurt or alarm Mikey at all. I kept the...whatever....that came out attached to the black-ish tip in a tissue in case I should take it with us to the Vet. Any ideas on what it could be? THANKS!! Aug 18
I just saved a cat from the human shelter. I already have a family cat. My family cat is male,declawed, and no longer can make little kitties. The new cat we have brought home is also male, although he has not had any medical intervention like our family cat has. I would like to know if this could be the reason for the strange behavior in both cats. When we brought the new cat home, he bullied our family cat pretty bad. He had our cat hiding under beds, and staying in one room. We have had the new cat for one month, and now the roles have seemed to have reversed. When we brought our new cat home, he was pretty well taken care of. We think he may have been an indoor cat at one time. After this role reversal, our new cat has gotten pretty thin. I am truely worried. I have come to love the new cat, and now i am with two very sweet cats that just do not get along at all. I am confused about the way they are acting, and would like some input on how to help them. Aug 18
My 8 year old male Abyssinian started sneezing repeated about two weeks ago. A week ago, my 7 year old female Abby began sneezing. They sneezed several times in rapid succession, then don't do it again for several hours. No other symptoms - eyes are clear, no nasal discharge, appetite normal. My two Siberians are not sneezing. Do I need to just keep an eye on the Abbys or take them to the vet now? Aug 18
